Tournament: Get5Bass Solo Series

March 28th, 2021

Lake Dardanelle

Angler: Frank Leone - 5th place - 13.57 pounds - $260.00

Practice: I took a day of annual leave on Friday and hit the lake. First day on the water in 2021 and I borrowed a boat from Horizon Trike and Marine (still waiting on my new Phoenix to come in). I started off in a spot that I didn't intend to fish during the tournament. I was kind of just taking their temperature. I got off to a quick start and boat a couple of nice fish. The rest of the day was full of bites as the fish were firing. I didn't have a big sack, but I was primarily fishing B areas, so that was kind of expected. I had a game plan in mind for the derby and I was ready to go....

Tournament: When I got everyone taken off, I shot the Horizon Triton Rig towards my starting area. I got there and was surprised to not see a soul. I was pumped, but the day got off to a slow start. Finally, at about 7:45 AM, I caught a 3.5 pound chunk on a vibrating jig. 1st derby fish of 2021!!! Anyway, I caught 3 more shorts from my starting area and ended up bailing out. Off to area #2. When I got there, I added a  keeper pretty quick, but then hit a long dry spell. Finally, at 11:45 AM, I added another chunky 3-pounder on the bladed jig. I was contemplating leaving area #2, but I decided to stick it out. Good thing too, as I was able to add 5 more keepers, including another 3.5 pounder on a jig, by 1:00 PM. I headed to the weigh-in with my fingers crossed that I would be in check range...

Keeper count:

Big Bite Baits Cane Stick: 3 keepers - Denali Lithium 7' MH; 16 pound Sunline Sniper FC

Leone's Toad jig: 3 keepers - Denali Lithium 7'4 MH; 16 pound Sunline Sniper FC

Bladed Jig with Big Bite Kamikaze Swimon Trailer: 3 keepers - Denali Kovert and Attax 7'2 MH; 16 pound Sunline Dostrike FC

Final Thoughts: A great spring day on the water!!!

See ya' on the flip side... side....
