Kerry Milner takes commanding victory at Lake Degray BFL!

Story by Terrance Narveson

Heavy storms hit Arkansas this week and dumped loads of water throughout
the state. It caused a major rise of the lake level which was already high
before the tournament. The Corp of Engineers closed all their ramps due to
the high water which left only a handful of access areas for the 168 boat field.
With anglers boasting of great catches before the water rising. The high water
proved to be a challenge for most anglers as only a few people brought in
limits. Kerry Milner proved to have the winner pattern as he brought in over
20 lbs to take the win. Here is how the top anglers approached the day.

1st Place – 20.13 - Kerry Milner

He was fishing in the mid-lake area throwing a Carolina-rig baby brush hog
(green pumpkin). He had found a few areas that were holding fish before the
tournament but it was his co-angler that gave him a tip of where to fish the
same pattern on place he has been fishing. It proved to be the honey hole and
produced not only his great sack of fish but also the day’s big bass (7.12). They
were fishing the old bank line casting to the flooded trees dragging their rigs
to the grass. They tried the shallow brush early but could not get anything
going.

2nd Place – 16.11 - Dennis Bean

For the second time this year Dennis got the second spot. He was throwing
Carolina-rig lizards and struggled to get his bites. He caught some early and
had to come back to those fish later in the day to round out his limit.

3rd Place – 15.06 - Tim Gartman

He caught one fish on a crankbait and the others on a Carolina rig in about 16-
18 foot of water. He only had four fish to weigh in for the day as the Degray
slot limit kept him from bringing in a full sack. He did most of his fishing in the
mid lake area. The water had color but was not muddy like the upper lake.

1st Place Co-Angler - Brian Lyles – 12.14

He caught all his fish on a football head jig in about 15-18 ft of water. He was
throwing a black/blue jig to get his fish. The fish were pulled back out a little
because of the high water but after searching a little he and his partner were
able to figure it out.
