Fred Martin and Chris Phillips Win Super Team Tournament on
DeGray Lake

Chris Phillips and Fred Martin were all smiles after winning $5,000!!

The duo of Fred Martin and Chris Phillips topped 74 teams fishing Vince Miller's
Super Team Tournament on Lake DeGray this Sunday by catching 5 bass that
tipped the scales at 22.08 pounds. Overall, the fish seemed to be in a biting mood,
as 23 teams brought limits to the scales. Looks like the warm weather of late has
put the fish closer to pre-spawn mode. Here's how the top 5 teams caught their
fish:

1st - Fred Martin and Chris Phillips  - 5 bass - 22.08 pounds - $5,000.00

Fred and Chris started their day fishing jigs and jerkbaits over deep water.
They had a small limit in the boat, but with a half hour left in the day made a
move to the shallows. What happened next was a magical five minutes all
tournament fisherman dream about. "Fred said we needed to go shallow, so
we hit a little flat area" said Phillips. "Fred hooked one immediately on a
jerkbait, got it in the boat, and while I was culling he caught another one. But
he wasn't done yet, while I was culling after the second one, Fred had
another one and got it in the boat" continued Phillips. "That jerkbait was hot,
3 four pounders in 5 minutes" Phillips said excitedly. Specifically, the jekbait
was a Lucky Craft Pointer 100, which Martin fished on a GLoomis Crankin'
Stick. "The rod was key - It allowed me to get the bait down to the right depth
and had enough give to prevent the fish from throwing the bait - We didn't
lose a fish all day" said Martin.

2nd - Duke Gunnell/Brandon Rhoden - 5 bass - 18.57 pounds - $1,500.00

Brandon was out practicing for
another tournament, so Duke
had to fish this one alone.
Didn't seem to hurt him much.
Duke had caught some big jig
fish in practice, but the wind
forced him to change his pattern
on Sunday. He headed to the
main Lake where he cranked
a Norman DLN all day. He
commented that he caught about
30 bass during the tournament.
