Ken and Sandra Dillon win Arkansas Couples Tournament
on Lake Dardanelle
Ken and Sandra Dillon hold part of their winning catch. The bass in
Ken's hand was the day's big bass, a "gorilla" that weighed 6.23 pounds.
The Fourth of July has passed and the "dog days" of summer are upon us. The
hot weather and lack of wind made for a tough bite today on Dardanelle, but Ken
and Sandra Dillon were able to catch 4 bass weighing 14.59 pounds to top the
field of 37 boats and collect the $1,000.00 first place prize. Their bag included the
day's big bass, a "gorilla" that tipped the scales at 6.23 pounds, earning them
and additional $340.00.
Here's how the top 3 teams caught their fish:
1st place - Ken and Sandra Dillon - 4 bass - 14.59 pounds
Ken said they started the day at the
Nuclear One Plant intake, where they
caught their first two keepers on smoke
purple gitzit tubes fished around the
edge of the grass. They caught their
remaining two keepers in Dardanelle
Bay, where they fished the tube and a
plastic worm they called the "Lake
Conway Special" (Purple/blue flake)
around a submerged line of stumps.

2nd place - Bryan and Karen Head - 5 bass - 13.72 pounds
Bryan and Karen started their day
throwing Carolina-rigged Zoom
Baby Brushhogs on channel drops
in the Illinois Bayou. They caught
two keepers in the Bayou before
noon, then filled their limit fishing l
near the main river channel.

3rd place - Danny and Sharon Waldo - 3 bass - 10.50 pounds
Danny and Sharon started their day
in Piney Bay, and landed 3 keepers
in the first hour, so they decided to
fish there the rest of the day. They
caught their fish on channel drops
Carolina-rigging Zoom Lizards
(watermelon). They used 6 pound
test line on spinning tackle, and
Danny said they broke-off one good
fish. He didn't think the thin line
made a difference in their day, and
he said he won't use the 6 pound
test again in a tournament. Sharon and Danny Waldo
