Jim Towers and Buddy Oldner Win on the Arkansas River !!!

Story by Jeremy Risley

This tournament was a fund raiser for the University of Arkansas –
Monticello (UAM) Bass Club held on Saturday October 18. They are
going to compete in the FLW College Fishing Series in 2009. They need
to raise funds to help with the travel expenses to compete in this
series. Keep an eye on the website for upcoming tournaments held by
the UAM Bass Club. Fourteen boats showed up to participate in this
tournament. The duo of Jim Towers and Buddy Oldner were able to
bring home the win by catching 5 bass weighing 16.63 pounds. Here is a
look at the results:

1st – Jim Towers and Buddy Oldner - 5 bass – 16.63 pounds - $356

Jim and Buddy have been on a hot streak all summer. Jim and Buddy
reported to have some early morning excitement. Buddy said they got
their boat stuck and Jim had to take an early morning swim to get the
boat unstuck. After the excitement, they were able to catch fish on black
buzzbait and rattletraps in the Annex and Coal Pile area.

2nd – Johnny Johnson and Scott Fowler - 5 bass – 13.47 pounds - $170

Johnny continues to be on a tear of lately. He teamed up with Scott to
keep the hot streak going.  They caught their fish on a black and red jig
in the Annex.

3rd – Jeremy Risley and Caleb Lane - 5 bass – 13.13 pounds - $60

They caught their fish in the river on black and blue Jewel Eakins Jigs.

Big Bass – Jim Towers and Buddy Oldner – 3.94 pounds - $130

They caught this toad on a black buzzbait. However, that wasn’t the
biggest bass weighed in on this day. Wesley and Steve Jacks decided
that morning not to pay $10 toward the big bass pot. They caught a 5.72
“baby moose.” The decision not to pay the big bass pot cost them $130,
ouch that hurts!!!!
