2008 Arkansas JR. State Champions Crowned!!
Jonny Schultz and Mitch Thompson dominate Arkansas Jr.
State Tournament
On March 15th, 2008 the Arkansas TBF held its 2nd annual Junior State
Championship on Morgan Point Lake on the Arkansas River. 18 junior
anglers took to the water in hopes of securing a bid to the 2008 TBF
National Guard JR Championship. Despite rapidly falling water and windy
conditions, the competitors caught bass and records were broken.
In the 11-14 age group, Jonny Schultz, age 13 from Little Rock, caught a
five-bass limit weighing 16-pounds 1-ounce, which included the tournament’s
big bass at 7-pounds 14-ounces. It is the largest bag and heaviest bass ever
weighed in at an Arkansas Junior event.
In the 15-18 age group, Mitch Thompson, age 15 from Bauxite, used last
minute heroics to secure the win. Thompson caught a four-pounder in the
last 15 minutes within site of the launch and amid cheers of the spectators.
His three fish creel weighed 8-pounds 14-ounces.
Schultz and Thompson will now represent the Arkansas Bass Federation at
the TBF/FLW National Guard Junior World Championship August 16 & 17,
2008 on Lake Monticello in South Carolina. They will compete for over
$30,000 in scholarships and Youth Program Grants.
