Billy Albert and Terrance Narveson Win the Saturday's Bass
Club Open Tournament on Lake Dardanelle
Story by Terrance Narveson
Nine Boats came out for Saturday Bass Clubs Annual Night Tournament
and with the Lake fishing less then stellar it was going to be a challenge.
Billy Albert and Terrance Narveson took the win with 17.01lbs to end the
evening.
1st - Billy Albert/Terrance Narveson - 17.01lbs
It was an assortment of patterns or just junk fishing for most but we had 7
keepers for the night all coming from the Illinois Bayou area.
2nd - Spencer Grace/Jared Allen - 11.34lbs
They stayed on the lower end chasing schoolers during the evening hours
and pulled up on drops/ brush after dark.
In the Boat with Jewel Jigs
Billy and I fished Thursday night and had a terrible evening with 1 small
fish. We decided to run the same pattern Saturday night and this time it
fired. It was Carolina-rigged lizards to start on a small drop where we got 2
small keepers. Then we moved into the Bayou to a deeper drop and threw
Jigs and put a skinny keeper in the boat. A quick run to the rocks with a
buzzbait churning up the water is where we caught the better numbers but
the quality was not there. We were only able to catch 1 good keeper out of 7
or 8 fish.
Just before dark we moved into the big Pit and Billy caught a 4lb baby
gorilla on a spinnerbait. We had our limit before dark and plenty of time to
cull up when the sun went down. This is when it normally gets good but
tonight it was like watching ice melt. We were only able to catch 4 more fish
after dark but two were keepers and one was a 5lb sow.
It was fun to fish after dark but would have been better if the bite was a little
better. We did get lucky by getting two key bites but that is how it goes
sometimes.
