Billy McCaghren Jr. Hoists his Central Open Trophy!!!

Billy McCaghren Jr. (Mayflower, AR.) has quickly become one of the
best anglers in the state of Arkansas. He has won two signigficant
"Angler of the Year" awards (Mr. Bass of Arkansas; Wal-Mart BFL),
numerous local tournaments, and now has a BASS Central Open title
under his belt.
Get5 recently had a chance to talk to Billy about his most
recent major victory and his plans for the future.

Get5: It's been a couple of months since your Central Open victory on
the Red River. Has it sunk in yet?

Billy: It took me a week or two to realize that the victory was a big deal.
Not everybody has a chance to win something like that. It was just one
of those weeks where everything went perfect. I couldn't do anything
wrong. I caught them where I thought I was going to catch them before
I even left the house. I found a place that fished exactly like Lake
Conway. On my second morning of practice I got into a place and within
30 minutes seen everything I needed to know. Fortunately, I caught
almost everything that bit and had a big lead after the first day. After
that, I just had to hang on.

Get5: The last two opens are on Kentucky Lake and Lake Texoma. How
do you feel about those events?

Billy: I've been to Texoma a couple of times, so I have an idea of what I
may be able to do there. I've been to Kentucky Lake, but I've only
fished the Kentucky portion. This tournament takes off out of
Tennessee, so I'm going to go over there a couple of weekends to get
familiar with it. I don't want to squander a chance at making the Classic.

Get5: If your fortunate enough to qualify for the Classic and make the
Elite Series, is that something your thinking about doing?

Billy: I would really like to. I'm going to have to see how sponsorship
goes. I'm not going to go in debt to do it, but if I can only go "semi" in
debt, I'm going to try and do it.

Get5: Tell us about your association with H2O Sportz and BassCat Boats.

Billy: Right now, they are my only sponsors. They enable me to get a
new boat every other year. Without the relationship with them, I would
not be able to fish out of a new boat. The H20 Sportz guys have really
helped me meet a lot of people in the industry and I really think that will
help me down the road.
