Boyd Duckett (Demopolis, AL.) has had quite a year to remember. He kicked off 2007 with a win at the most prestigious tournament in all of bass fishing, the Bassmaster Classic, in his home state of Alabama (Lay Lake). The win was worth $500,000. Now Boyd can add another feather to his cap (not to mention another $250,000), a victory at the Bassmaster Legends held the past four days on Lake Dardanelle. Boyd landed just over 30 pounds (30-01) this weekend on the 6-hole course that was developed in the Illinois Bayou creek arm of Dardanelle to top Jason Quinn (Lake Wylie, SC) by 10 ounces.
Duckett, who reportedly fished deep offshore structure on day 3, had to fish shallow on day 4. Most of his day 4 keepers were caught as he pitched to holes in the water willow (Dardanelle's signature grass).
Quinn who landed over 29 pounds of bass the final two days, also relied on the shallow bite. He also targeted water willow, and he concentrated on steep, shady banks located near the Illinois Bayou creek channel. His lure of choice was a tru-tungsten jig.
