Spro's Fat John - The "Big Nasty" of squarebills!!!
The Spro "Fat John" strikes with a Dardanelle Fatty!!!
Story by Frank Leone
Some lures look great in the package but don't catch fish. It didn't take us long to figure out the Spro Fat John crankbaits not only looked good, but also caught the heck out of fish!
The Spro Fat John cranks are a formidable sized bait that looks plain mean and nasty. The bait has a great "rolling action" and will also "hunt"during the retrieve. These two actions are deadly on bass, making this bait a fish catching machine.
During our testing, we threw this bait on either 12 or 14-pound Sunline Sniper Fluorocarbon. The 14-pound seemed to be a perfect match and the bait was routinely getting down in the 4 - 5 feet range on every cast. John Crews, who designed this bait for Spro is always commenting that fish tend to "choke" this bait down further than other cranks. I have to say that we totally agree, as on several occasions our Fat John's "disappeared" down the throat of a fatty!!!
The Spro Fat John crankbaits are available in several fish catching colors. Check them out at www.bassmafiatackle.com or at the Bass Mafia Tackle store in Russellville.
