The Big Bite Baits Fighting Frog and Jewel Rock Weight:
Carolina-rigging is No Longer a Drag!!!

The Fighting Frog and Jewel Rock Combination produces on Bull Shoals!!!

Story by Frank Leone

When conditions get tough during the post-spawn and bass move off of the
bank, most anglers reach for the trusty Carolina-rig. A Carolina-rig consists
of a weight, bead, swivel and 2 - 5 feet of leader. We have recently tested
two products that we believe will improve your success with a Carolina-rig.

First we will start with the new Jewel
"Rock" weight. According to Jewel
Bait Company Owner, Gayle Julian,
the "Rock" was originally the brain-
child of Elite Series Pro, Mike
McClelland. McClelland wanted a
weight that would mimic a football
head in appearance and functionality.
Gayle went to the drawing board and
the "Rock" was created. The
Rock has three main advantages over
traditional weights: Feel, snag
aversion, and bottom disruption.
The first thing we noticed with the Rock was improved sensitivity and feel.
We could literally feel what was on the bottom and we noticed increased
sensitivity even out to deeper depths. The increased sensitivity is due to the
football shape, which causes the bait to rock back and forth on the bottom.
The unique shape is also what makes the Rock more "snag proof" than
other traditional weights. Another advantage of the Jewel "Rock" weight is
bottom disruption. Since the weight is continually rocking back and forth on
the bottom, more silt is moved, which may attract more attention from
curious bass. The Jewel "Rock" weights are available in two sizes (1/2 oz.
and 3/4 oz). Check them out at

Of course a weight alone will not
catch you a fish. You must have a
plastic morsel at the end of that rig!
Add the Big Bite Baits Fighting
Frog and you will get bit!!! The
Fighting Frog imitates a crawfish
really well. The claws have a unique
action that is kind of what I call a
"withering" motion. It doesn't flap
wildly like a Paca Craw and isn't
totally inert like a Sweet Beaver. It
really has a unique, subtle action that
I have never seen duplicated from any other soft plastic. One thing is for
sure, the fighting frog will get you
bit! During two recent outings, Get5's
                                                          Terrance Narveson slammed several
                                                          smallmouth, spotted, and largemouth
bass on the Fighting Frog. On Greers
Ferry Lake, It was the Fighting Frog
                                                          that was responsible for Terrance's
                                                          Evinrude Bonus winning BFL
                                                          performance. The Fighting Frog is
available in two sizes (3.5 and 4.5
                                                          inches) and several fish catching

colors. Check them out at
