Greg Widner and Mason Walker topped 108 teams fishing this year's Michelle Short Benefit Tournament on Lake Dardanelle by catching 5 bass that tipped the scales at 17.91 pounds. This event keeps getting bigger and better, and this year over $7,800 dollars was raised for the Michelle Short Scholarship Fund at the University of Central Arkansas. Here's how the top 3 teams caught their fish:
Greg and Mason threw crankbaits (square bills) and jigs to catch their bass. Greg said that once he figured out the pattern in his primary area, he duplicated it in several different spots and was able to upgrade at every new location. In addition to winning the $3,000 overall prize, Greg and Mason also won $3,000 for winning the adult/youth division Mason Walker and Greg Widner
2nd - Dennis Bean and Tracy Harmon - 5 bass - 16.08 pounds
Dennis and Tracy used a multitude of lures to catch their bass. They fished in Shoal Bay and the lower end of the lake and alternated locations throughout the day. Their sack included the day's big bass, a 6.01 pound "mule" which they caught on a crankbait fished around brush.
