Mel and Gene Davis Win the 2008 MSSF Benefit Tournament on
Lake Dardanelle

Mel and Gene Davis topped a whopping 119 teams fishing this year's
Michelle Short Benefit Tournament on Lake Dardanelle by catching 5 bass
that tipped the scales at 21.24 pounds. This event keeps getting bigger and
better, and this year over $7,954 dollars was raised for the Michelle Short
Scholarship Fund at the University of Central Arkansas. The fishing was
great as well as 50 five bass limits were brought across the scales.

Here's How the top three teams caught their fish:
1st - Mel and Gene Davis - 5 bass - 21.24 pounds - $5,000.00
Mel and Gene made a long run this
morning and it paid off. Fishing 30
miles upriver, the duo found a grass
bed loaded with bass and had it all to
themselves. They threw spinnerbaits
(Mel Davis Special) to catch their
fish. They reported catching 20
keepers during their day.

2nd - Al Fisher and Jeff Sanders - 5 bass - 20.73 pounds - $1,000 + 2 Motorguide
trolling motors
Al and Jeff used three different
techniques to catch their bass. They
caught fish early on a spinnerbait,
flipped grass in the middle of the
day, then caught a bunch of fish late
on a swim bait.

3rd - Richard Wood and Gerald King - 5 bass - 19.27 pounds - $750.00
Richard and Gerald started their day
around Spadra, where they landed
several keepers on jigs and spinnerbaits.
Later in the day, they came downriver
and caught 2 good keepers on a
River2Sea Frog.

Big Bass - Vince Miller and Buck Mikles - 6.10 pounds - $1,160.00
Vince caught the big bass of the
day on a Reaction Innovations
Sweet Beaver (White Trash -
BMF Flipping Hook) flipped to matted
vegetation. Vince used Stren Braid,
a G Loomis Flipping Stick, and Daiwa
Reels toi help him catch his "mule".

1st - Adult/Youth Division - Allen and Aaron Fullbright - 16.14 pounds - $1,500.00
Allen and Aaron caught their fish
swimming a jig early, but switched
to a Texas-rigged soft plastic craw
later in the day.
