Andy Morgan Talks about Ultimate Match Fishing, BassCat
Boats, and Lake Dardanelle
Andy Morgan is all smiles about being ranked #3 in the world!!!
Get5 caught up with Andy Morgan (Dayton, TN.) this week at Rush Sporting
Goods in Russellville. Andy is currently ranked #3 in the BassFan.com World
Rankings and has been on fire this season on the FLW Tour!!! Here's what he
had to say about Ultimate Match Fishing, BassCat Boats, and Lake Dardanelle:
Get5: Tell me about your season and switching to BassCat Boats:
Andy Morgan: My switch to BassCat Boats has been awesome. It's kind of turned
a new leaf over for me, inspired me a little more, I've got a new boat under me
now, you know how that kind of fires you up. I've been really impressed with
BassCat, and furthermore have been really impressed with the Pierce family that
owns and runs BassCat. I'm in a Cougar FTD with a 225 HP Evinrude and the
performance is wonderful. I'm performing as good or better than a lot of these
boats with 250's, so I'm double impressed there.
My year has been busy, and you know you have to make hay when the sunshines
and I've been after it hard. Everything has kind of fell into place and even
though I haven't won an event this year, I've had strong finishes. It's been a
good run so far and I hope to keep the ball rolling.
Get5: The next on the FLW Tour event is at Beaver Lake. You won that event last
year, How do you feel going into this year's tournament?
Andy Morgan: You know it's Beaver. It's always tough, I think I caught 8.5 to 9
pounds a day last year and I won by 2.5 pounds. I don't go up there expecting to
catch big stringers or a bunch of fish. It's flooded this year, last year it was low -
so you never know what to expect. I'm kind of glad that it's flooded, because it
changes things. It gets stale going to Beaver every year, but it's Beaver Lake
and I'm kind of happy we get a little change with the flooding.
Get5: How did you get involved with Ultimate Match Fishing?
Andy Morgan: Joe Thomas called me some time ago, and asked me if I would like
to fish in Ultimate Match Fishing, and I said "Darn Right"!! It sounded like a good
time and I'm looking forward to the competition.
Get5: What do you think about Lake Dardanelle?
Andy Morgan: Lake Dardanelle is wonderful - It's the Arkansas River, and pretty
much all up and down the Arkansas River is good fishing. It fishes the way I cut
my teeth on the Tennessee River, its shallow with dirty water and there's plenty
of fish here. The Russellville area and Lake Dardanelle are second to none in
the state in my opinion.
