Ricky Ferguson wins the First Monticello Bass Club Tournament of 2008
Story by Jeremy Risley
Ricky Ferguson topped 34 anglers to take the first tournament of the year for the Monticello
Bass Club on Saturday by weighing in a 5 fish limit that weighed 16.62 pounds. This event was
originally scheduled for Lake Chicot but was voted to be moved to Pool 2 on the Arkansas
River. Typically this tournament is a “slug fest”, however this event didn’t turn out that away
this year. Here is how the top 4 finishers caught their fish:
1st – Ricky Ferguson - 5 bass – 16.62 pounds
Ricky had an awesome day by catching around 45 to 50 fish on Saturday. He culled 9 times to
achieve his final weight. His fish were caught on various types of lures. He caught fish on
lizards, jigs and crankbaits - with his biggest fish coming on the crankbait.
2nd – Paul Francis - 5 bass – 16.57 pounds
Paul stated his fish were caught real shallow on, as he quoted, “a cheap 2 dollar white
spinnerbait bought at Wal-Mart.” His limit was anchored by the day’s big bass, a 6.50 pound
“Dumas Toad”
3rd – Brandon Satterlee - 5 bass – 15.27 pounds
Brandon stated all his fish came on a jig.
4th – Daniel Sawyer - 5 bass – 14.50 pounds
Daniel stated he had a lucky day and really didn’t have a distinctive pattern. He caught his fish
on a little bit of everything.
