Matt Lea Wins the Mr. Bass of Arkansas Classic on Wright
Patman Lake

Matt Lea topped 35 anglers fishing the Mr. Bass of Arkansas Classic on
Wright Patman Lake (Texas) by catching a three day total of 39 pounds of
bass. For his efforts, Matt won a Ranger 519 boat with a Mercury outboard
valued at $42,000. This was the first Mr. Bass of Arkansas Classic held out
of state. Fishing was excellent with lots of 5 bass limits brought to the
scales. Here's how Matt won this event:
1st - Matt Lea - 15 bass - 39 pounds - Ranger/Mercury package
On day one, Matt fished the Kelly Creek
arm of the lake, where he threw a
Sweet Beaver (Oxblood) to catch his fish.
On day 2, he didn't have a keeper in the
boat at 1:30 in the afternoon, so he headed
to some buck brush islands that Joey
Hurley had shown him in practice. The
move paid off, as he was able to put over
18 pounds of bass in the boat with a Jewel
Eakins' Jig in just over an hour. On day 3,
it was back to the flipping the buck brush and
he was able to take the victory with a
12.20 pound bag.
2nd - Duke Gunnell - 13 bass - 36.52 pounds - $3,000.00
Duke fished two different
patterns with the same bait.
He threw a Zoom Brushhog
around deep stumps and
shallow bushes to catch his
bass.

3rd - Ryan Williams - 15 bass - 35.62 pounds - $1,850.00
Ryan caught his fish on a
Zoom Brushhog and a jig.

4th - Robert Hines - 15 bass - 34.80 pounds - $1,250.00
Robert came into the Classic
hot off of his MBOA Angler
of the Year season. He had a
great Classic and was
in contention to win the title.
He described the fishing as
"painfully"slow and said that
he was sharing his area with
several other contenders. In
addition to his winnings, he
also received a $250.00
Ranger Cup Bonus.

Chad Kirkpatrick Wins the Amateur Division of the Mr. Bass of
Arkansas Classic
Chad Kirkpatrick takes the Amateur title on Wright Patman !!!
1st Amateur - Chad Kirkpatrick - 10 bass - 20.09 pounds - Ranger/Mercury
Chad was reluctant to give any details about how he caught his fish, but was
very happy to be leaving Texas with a Ranger Bass Boat !!!
