Jerry Williams Wins the 2007 Mr. Bass of Arkansas Classic Title!!!

Jerry Williams (right) reacts to winning the 2007 MBOA Classic by less than a pound over
2nd place finisher Nathan Stratton (Left).

Jerry Williams topped 35 professional anglers fishing the 2007 Mr. Bass of
Arkansas Classic on Lake Greeson by catching 15 bass weighing 29.19 pounds
during the 3 days of competition. Williams will take home a Ranger 519 boat
equipped with a 200 Mercury Optimax and Minn Kota Trolling Motor for his efforts.
Williams defeated day 2 leader, Nathan Stratton, by less than a pound. Stratton
struggled on day 3 and was only able to bring 3 bass to the scales. Overall, the 2007
MBOA Classic was a great event! The weather was awesome, and the hospitality of
the Swaha Lodge and Marina staff (Kevin Fant, Janet Fant, Hunter Fant, and
Rhonda Harmon) was second to none!!! Here's how the top 3 pros' caught their fish:

1st - Jerry Williams - 29.19 pounds - Ranger/Mercury/Minn Kota
package

"The hole that won this tournament was 100%
due to Mark Davis". "Mark and I took a break
from deer hunting back in mid-October to fish
Greeson". During that trip Mark found a
ditch in 23 ft. of water on a flat". "There were no
fish in it during that time, but we both looked
at each other and knew that they would be their
during the Classic", Williams said. Jerry decided
not to fish the ditch during practice, and on day one caught a small limit
before returning to the magic spot. He targeted the edge of the ditch at first, but
finally found that the sweet spot was right in the middle. Once the
fish were found, Jerry landed 10 bass in 10 minutes on a CC Jigging Spoon. He was
able to cull his small limit out and ended the day with 9.40 pounds. On Day 2, Jerry
returned to the ditch and caught his best stringer of the tournament, a 10.01 pound
limit within an hour on the spoon - and then immediately left the area. On Day 3,
Jerry returned to the "honey hole" and immediately caught 2 solid keepers. He
stayed their for 2 more hours, but didn't catch another fish. He left the area, and
started fishing flats. He proceeded to fill out his limit by throwing a Rattletrap, which
clinched the victory. This was Jerry's fourth Mr. Bass of Arkansas Classic victory,
but the first since the early 1980's. MBOA congratulates Jerry on his victory!!!

2nd place - Nathan Stratton - 28.23 pounds - $3,000.00

Nathan lead the event going into day 3, but
struggled on the final day and only brought
3 bass to the scales. His fish were caught on
brown football head jigs. Nathan made a strong
run at the victory but just came up a fish short.

                                                                                      2nd place: Nathan Stratton

3rd place - Brandon Rhoden - 26.67 pounds - $1,850.00

Brandon's fish were caught on topwater baits and
football head jigs. His stringer's were consistent all
three days and hovered between 8.5 and 9.5 pounds.

                                                                                        3rd place: Brandon Rhoden

Fred Martin Wins Mr. Bass of Arkansas Amateur Classic
Crown!!!
..... Stratton Leads going into Final Day on Pro Side

Ronnie Everett presents the 2007 Mr.Bass of Arkansas Amateur Classic Trophy to Champion Fred Martin

Fred Martin topped 35 amateur anglers fishing in the 2007 Mr. Bass of
Arkansas Classic on Lake Greeson by catching 10 bass weighing 14.17
pounds during the 2 days of competition. Martin will take home a Ranger
188 boat equipped with a 150 HP Mercury Optimax outboard and Minn
Kota Trolling Motor (package valued at over $30,000) for his efforts. The
competition heated up on the pro side, and the field was cut to 15 for the
third and final day of competition. Nathan Stratton will take a 1.75 pound
lead into the final day, but several competitors are in striking distance
and this event will come down to the final cast. Here's a look at how the
top 3 amateurs caught their fish:

1st - Fred Martin - 14.17 pounds - Ranger/Mercury/Minn Kota package

Fred fished day one with Duke Gunnell.
Duke was throwing a drop shot rig over
very deep water (creek channel swings)
for suspended fish. Fred found the early
action slow, but figured out that fish could
be caught shallower off of the creek
channel drops on Carolina-rigged soft
plastics (Zoom Speed Craw - Watermelon
seed). He had to make extremely long
casts, and credited his G Loomis Rod and
Shimano Reel for getting the job done. On day two, Fred fished with Greg
Ault. Fred caught three early keepers, but then struggled until about 3:00
PM, when he landed 6 keepers in the final hour of competition. All of his
day 2 fish were caught on the Carolina-rigged Zoom Speed Craw.Fred
thanked Mr.Bass of Arkansas, G Loomis
Rods, and Ranger Boats for making this weekend possible.

Fred credited his G Loomis Rod for
                                            helping win the amateur crown.

2nd place - Ryan Maxwell - 13.71 pounds - $1,250.00

Ryan fished day one with Kelly Coble. Although
Coble was throwing a spinnerbait, Ryan caught
his fish on a Carolina-rigged Zoom Speed Craw
(Watermelon-red). On day 2, Ryan fished with
David Thorton. The duo had a rough day on
the water, and had two different boats break
down. Ryan was able to land 3 keepers, but fell
one fish short of the victory. His day 2 fish were
caught on the Carolina-rig.

3rd place - Don Holloway - 11.65 pounds - $750.00

Don fished with Jason Linderman on day 1 and
Todd Christian on day 2. All of Don's fish were
caught on Carolina-rigged soft plastics or Zoom
Fluke
