Wal-Mart BFL - Lake Dardanelle - September 13th, 2008
Angler: Terrance Narveson (Co-Angler Division)
I was paired with Mark Ellis and he commented at the pairings that it would be a struggle but we
should get a few fish. Well a struggle it was. We ran to Shoal Bay to start and we were throwing
frogs only to find they were not eating them very well. After a few blow ups, missed fish, and a
couple small ones, Mark made an adjustment to a fluke. His catch ratio went up but the quality did
not. He was able to get three in the boat by 11:30 when we left. I on the other hand had the opposite
results. I missed a few fish and caught two short ones. Right then I knew it would be a struggle. I felt
that a jig was going to be my best bet to catch a keeper and basically committed to it for the day.
With my Jewel Eakins' jig in tote we ran back down to Delaware Bay. We were flipping the shoreline
brush when Mark boated his fourth fish. A nice 3lb black. Desperate times were coming quick and I
had to get at least one fish to guarantee a spot for the Regional. We ran to the intake - no results.
Over to Newton Bay - no results. Finally with an hour to go we stopped in Mill Creek to finish the
day. Bam, I had one on crankbait and I lifted it in the boat with disappointment because it was short
and I knew my day was going to end with a zero. We finished the stretch of bank and we came back
in. Mark finished in the 13th spot and got to fish the second day. I ended up making the regional so
things were not as bad as they could be, but it's not a day that I want to repeat any time soon.
See you at the Regional on Kentucky Lake.
