Tournament: TBF Cental Division Championship
June 3,4,5th, 2009
Angler: Terrance Narveson
I got to fish this event right after getting back from the All-American so I
was still on Cloud nine but the reality of a tough bite on Dardanelle will
humble any angler. My first Day was pretty smooth as we ran and covered
water on the lower end with no bites until about 9:30 then I caught my
first keeper on a RC 1.5. I followed that up with another only minutes later
on the same crankbait. After assessing the situation, we decided to turn
around and hit that water again to see if there were more there. Next pass
My boater caught three keepers in what seemed like back to back to back casts. We
move up the bank to some grass where I caught another keeper on a jig. It
was time for another move and I just went to some fresh rocks and kept
throwing my crankbait. I was throwing my new Jackall MC 60 SR in JP
Chartreuse and caught a few more fish before finally landing my 5th keeper.
I never got to cull this day but did lose one that might have helped. My
weight for the day was 11lb 2oz and I got a fish care penalty for 8 oz so
10.10 was day one.
Day two
We started up the river in the current and throwing to some brush along the
bank. It was not long for my boater to catch two short fish and realize that
his water had fallen about 2 ft from the day before. We stuck around hitting
more of the same stuff but only caught shorts. I suggested a move and again
when we got there it was shorts. This was the common theme for the day as we
eventually came back down and the same results everywhere we went. It was
with ten minutes before time to go that my boater caught the first keeper
and it was nothing to be real proud of except that it went across the15-inch line.
A zero for the day was not what I had in mind but it can happen at any time.
Day three
It was a short run to our starting location and with high expectations to
not repeat the day before I was well armed with everything I could throw.
Again It was a struggle to get a morning bite and all the places we were
hitting were great spots. Just hard to believe that nothing would bite. A
short ride to another bank had similar results so we decided to go exploring
and soon there was fish number 1 for my boater. Oh yes it looked like we
were going to get on to some fish. Shad were there, good water color, good
grass, good wood. Only 1 small keeper is what we caught after all that
trouble. We moved to some new grass and I was throwing my jig and had a pig
get all over it. Wrestled him out of the grass up to the boat and he just
came off. I was frustrated now. Covering more water and throwing an
assortment of lures I finally got my keeper. We moved around looking for
more but it was a struggle to even git a bite. I literally tried everything.
About mid day my boater Rich West caught his second keeper which ended up
being our last fish for the day. I had tried to make a come back and help
the team out but could not pull any last minute heroics to get done. Now it
is time to go and figure them our for the BFL next weekend.
See you guys on the water.
