Lake Ouachita Sunday February 21st
Three teams braved the weather Sunday on Lake Ouachita and just like the BFL it was a
brutal day of fishing. It was Greg Widner that won with two fish for 5.10lbs.
2nd Bob West - 2.96lbs
3rd Dennis Mason - 1.90lbs
4th Allan Reaves - 1.55lbs
I got to fish another day on Lake Ouachita after a less then stellar day with the BFL so I
figured I would be out for redemption and try to get at least one fish today. Well my
opportunity hit about as quick as I pulled up to my first stop. It was literally my fourth cast
with my Jackall Muscle 7+ and I hooked up with a good fish. About the time I said fish on
and its a good one I looked down and saw it was not hooked very well. It was about 3
seconds after I saw the fish it shook its head it came un- hooked. Just like Saturday, fish
on look at it and its gone. Only today, I had the rest of the day to still put one in the boat. I
fished up the bank and back down to the mouth of the creek trying to get another bite
throwing everything I owned. No takers here. A quick move to the mouth of the bay and
down that bank and I figured I needed to move because nothing seemed to be working.
We decided to move around the lake as the rain and heavy downpours were letting up.
We tried fishing main lake islands and grass with nothing to show and most of the time
no grass to show for our efforts either. I went to a grass flat up the North Fork to see if
anything would come up there but again it was a strike out. The weather was turning for
the worse with the winds picking up to about 15mph. We ran to an isolated pocket in mid
lake where I lost the fish yesterday. I know there were fish around and I figured where
there is one there has got to be another. I pitched my Jewel Eakins Jig to a lay down and
at the end of the log I felt pressure and the fish moving off with it. YES here we go finally
a fish. I set the hook have a fish on for about two seconds and it pulls off. I cant believe
it, two days in a row practically in the same spot. At this time I am frustrated with my
fishing and trying to think of anything that will produce a bite. I figure why not try and hit
up some soar lips from yesterday. We run back to Mt Harbor and fish around the points
then move to the boat ramp area. Nothing yet again. Time is running out and we
have about ten minutes left before weigh-in. Larry is throwing his jig head worm on the
ramp and one picks it up he sets the hook and his line breaks. What a fitting end to a
rough day on the water. I cant wait to get back out on any lake where I can at least catch a
fish.
