                     March 6, 2010

Angler: Adam Starks
5th  Place- 1 fish- 3lbs 5oz

Background & Practice:
Lake Enterprise is a small oxbow lake in extreme Southeast Arkansas located in the big town of
Wilmot.  There was no practice for this event and this was my first time on this body of water.  I did
spend about and hour studying Google Earth and trying to get a lay of the lake in my mind.

March 6th: I was excited about this tournament.  I had been sitting in the office watching the sun
shine the last few days thinking that the fish have got to start chewing getting ready for the spawn.
As I launched the boat I noticed that the water was muddy to say the least and from what I had read
and heard, this lake was supposed to be relatively clear.  As the boat races began I was patiently
spooling up a new rod and reel and trying to figure a game plan out.  Dad was fishing with me so we
talked it over and decided to try up shallow in a little flat he fished over there last year.  I started out
throwing a spinnerbait, no bites on that.  Then switched over to and Excalibur XR50 Rattlebait….still
no bites.  So I picked up Ol’ Faithful as I call it, my Jewel 3/8 Finesse Flipping Jig.  Well Ol’ Faithful
wasn’t kind to me this day as I scored no bites on her.  After a couple hours of fishing cypress trees
and the ditches leading to the flat I moved out to the main lake and did a little deep cranking but to
no avail.  I ran to the other end of the lake which looked like someone opened the valve on the
chocolate milk machine and let it run into the lake.  I don’t know how he did it but dad managed to
catch his only keeper of the day up there as well as another short fish.  After a couple of hours of
dredging the muddy waters on that end of the lake I ran back to the flat where we started.  Several
other competitors were in there and as I passed one of them, I pitched to some buck brush the guy
had just fished and caught my only fish of the day.  I scrambled around the rest of the day but to no
avail….one bite, one fish.

Keeper Count:  1

Net Bait Baby Paca Craw: 1 Keepers

Final Thoughts:

Wow…..I am ready to catch some fish.  This was a tough tournament.  This has definitely been one
of the hardest years I have fished in a while.  I really don’t believe in slumps, I just believe the fish
outsmarted me yet again…who am I kidding, I am in a slump.  Bring on the spring!

Until next time….

Fish Hard,
