Tournament: Vince Miller Superteam
August 14, 2011
Pool 6 of Arkansas River
Anglers: Jeremy Risley and Andy Case
Place: 15th - 2 bass – 2.56 pounds
Practice: Andy and I both got to spend some time the weekend before practicing for this
tournament. We both fished pool 5. Andy found some Carolina rig fish and I found some sand drop
fish.
August 14: Once our number was called, we headed south. After a short wait at the lock, we
started fishing some cuts in jetties. We were able to catch a bunch of short spotted bass on square
bill crankbaits. We tried that for a little longer but continued to catch short fish. We headed to one
of the sand drops. We caught a couple of shorts and several white bass. We continue to try sand
drops but we had little success. We decide to drop everything and start fishing wind blown jetties.
We started catching a bunch of short spotted bass. I did manage to get a 12 inch keeper spotted
bass in the boat. We worked our way up the river and hit the sand drop that we fished early in the
morning. I hooked a good spotted bass and have one over 3 pound trying to take the crankbait
from the spotted bass. We caught a couple more shorts and about 10 or so white bass. We head
back up to Pool 6 with about an hour and half left. We struggled the rest of the day/
Keeper count:
Strike King Series 5 Crankbait (Sexy Shad): 1 keeper
Lucky Craft RC 1.5 (Copper Shad): 1 keeper
Equipment:
Dobyns 705 CB Glass – Series 5 Crankbait
Dobyns 705 CB – RC 1.5 Crankbait
Final thoughts: That is how the LR pool tournaments seem to go for me. We both found solid
patterns in practice but everything fell apart during the tournament. The sand drop pattern is a
timely ordeal. We found out later that one of the drops we had fished had turned on for another
team. Our inexperience in these pools of the Arkansas River really hurt our chances to do good in
this tournament. In a side note, we finished 5 overall in the points. This year has been the toughest
year that I have had in numerous years. Hopefully the struggle will make me a better angler in the
long run.
