Tournament: Trader Bill's Team Trail
Derby day Trader Bills:
Spencer Grace… or should I say the “wet deck squatter” didn’t get to practice for this event
because he was fishing the federation tournament on Table Rock, so our game plan was similar to
mine from the BFL. I ran down the lake to the spot I had wanted to start on the previous day and
there wasn’t anyone on it this time, so we jumped up and started chunkin. I was throwing a Berkley
hollow belly swimbait around the rocks and the “wet deck squatter” was throwing a Vixen. No bites
on the rock, so we continued to my stretch of bushes. We pulled up and I dropped the trolling motor
and Spencer AKA “WDS” dropped his pants?!?! He um had a small case of well… you may be
eating and reading this so we won’t get into any details but lets just say he had an emergency.
HAHA… Ok so not wanting to see what was about to happen I stayed facing forward trying to focus
and just praying he didn’t get anything on my boat, when all of a sudden I hear “SPLOOSH!!!” I
quickly thought to myself ooohhh noooo… and when I turned around I have to say I seen the
funniest thing I have ever seen while fishing a derby. I see Spencer who is now known as the “wet
deck squatter”, scrambling onto the back deck of the boat, with his wet jeans tightly securing his two
ankles together, bent over digging into his pocket trying to retrieve his now wet phone, all while
trying to cover himself as best he could with only the elastic band left from his underwear that he
tore off to use as TP. “I’m laughing as I type this” honestly if only I had a video camera $$$! He
finally regains his composure, kicks off his jeans and has to finish his (clear my throat) “duties” then
he leaves his jeans off to dry and decides to put on “ONLY!” his “Goretex” rain suit. A mental
imagine I know most of you do not want, but hey I have to live with it so, so do you. “I’m still laughing
at this point”. We finally get back to fishing and of coarse we are still talking about what just
occurred when I remind him that “hey you realize I have to right a column on the day right” LOL and
um who wouldn’t put this EPIC event on it. He seemed displeased with this but laughed and he’s a
good sport so I knew he would take it well. HAHA!!! Ok now we actually start catching some fish in
my bushes “WDS” catches a few shorts then a few keepers flipping the bushes with a zoom super
hawg green pumpkin. He caught one black that went around 2 ½ pounds and two or three keeper
smallies. I added to the barrage of fish with a nice 2 pound smallmouth. We stayed in the area and
culled up all day with smallies and then finally one more nice 2 ½ pound black close to the end of
the day that “WDS” caught on the vixen. Now if you were out there Sunday you know it was
extremely humid especially when the sun came out. Well “WDS” got HOT in his goretex bibs and
had to take off his shirt. Well, when he pulled down the straps on his bibs I noticed possibly the
second funniest thing I have ever seen while in a derby. HE STILL HAD THE ELASTIC BAND FROM
HIS UNDERWEAR AROUND HIS BELLY!!! OMG I was dyeing I was laughing so hard! I mean how
the heck could you stand to have that wrapped around you all day like that? LMAO… Well we
noticed that his jeans had finally dried so he was fixing to put them back on when I decided to make
a move closer to the ramp, he decided to wait till we stopped again. HA bad decision… THEY FLEW
OUT OF THE BOAT ON THE WAY!!! Wet again he could not put them on so he was stuck still
wearing his bibs. Anyways after an EXTREMELY eventful day with the “Wet deck squatter” we ran
back to the ramp with little time to spare. I had a great time fishing Greers this weekend, this lake is
full of fish, just not so many big fish, but it would be an excellent place to bring a kid if trying to get
them interested in fishing because you will catch a boat load.
Finish – 14th with 10.04lbs
Keeper count: - 15 zoom super hawg
3 reaction innovations vixen
2 carolina rigged brush hog
Final thoughts:
WOW the most eventful day I have ever had on the water. Thanks Spencer for the memories I’m
sure you will never hear the end of them
