"In the Boat" presented by Jewel Bait Company
Tournament: Monticello Bass Club Classic
                      October 24, 2009
                      Lake Chicot

Anglers: Jeremy Risley
Place: 6th - 1 bass – 2.04 pounds

Practice: I didn’t have a chance to practice for this tournament.

October: Andy and I fished together again because we were still without boats. We headed to the
area where we did well during the last tournament there. We started fishing fast but quickly figured
out that we needed to fish slower. We didn’t get anything down that bank so we head to the mouth
of Ditch Bayou. We knew there would be some current there and hopefully the fish would be biting.
Well, Andy managed a short fish on a finesse worm. We fished there for a while and headed back
to the area we started at. Andy was able to catch another short fish and I missed what felt like a
small fish. We continued on and at this point I was wondering if we were going to catch any more
fish. Shortly after that I finally catch a short fish. We worked down the bank to one of the last docks
on that stretch of bank. At this point, my mind is wondering. I get a hit and set the hook. It felt like a
small fish. The fish heads right to the boat and comes to the surface. It is a solid 2 ½ pounder but
the problem was it kept on going past the boat and my lure came flying toward me!! That hurts on a
brutal day. We go back to mouth of Ditch Bayou and fish there but don’t get a bite. We headed
back down the stretch of docks and catch nothing. So with an hour left, we headed to a stretch of
docks that Andy has done well in the past on. We are working up through the docks and I make a
cast near the edge of a dock. I work my lure for a second and start to reel in. Just then a keeper
hammers it and this time I get it in the boat. My first keeper came with 40 minutes left!! We kept on
working down the bank but we didn’t catch any more fish.

Keeper count:

Lake Fork Craw Tube (Black Neon) – 1 keeper

Final thoughts: Wow that was a brutal tournament. I am just glad to get lucky and catch one
keeper, which got me a check!! I still think about the one that I lost but that is what I get for not
keeping my head in the game. That is something I need to work on this winter. It was a fun time
getting to fish with the club one last time!!

Final thoughts for the year: This will likely be my last write-up for the year. What a year it has
been. Frank and I were able to win a Superteam tournament and come oh so close in a couple
others. I was also able to win AOY in the Monticello Bass Club. There were plenty of peak and even
more valleys throughout the year but overall, I don’t have much to complain about. I even had
several “30 minutes of Greatness” in tournaments as Andy calls it. These are periods where I can’t
do anything wrong, sort of like being in a zone!! Finally, I want to take a second and thank my
sponsors: Get5bass, Jewel Bait Company, Basscat Boats, Netbait Company, Dobyns Rods, and
BassHunter Crankbaits. They help contributed to my success this year. Now that this season is
over, it is time to start working on areas that I need to improve before the next years tournament
season gets here!!

See ya’ at the next Year
