"In the Boat" presented by Jewel Bait Company
Tournament: Monticello Bass Club Tournament
                      September 12, 2009
                      Lake Chicot

Anglers: Jeremy Risley
Place: 6th - 5 bass – 10.06 pounds

Practice: I got to practice twice for this event. I had never fished during a drawdown at Chicot so it
was going to be a learning experience. Dad and I went out on a Friday and hammered them. It was
sunny and they were locked in on the docks. We caught them on just about anything that was
green pumpkin/red or plum. We even found an off shore spot that I caught a toad on. Then Andy
and I went back over there the next weekend and it was cloudy. We caught them on black buzzbait
and black neon worm on nothing banks.

September 12: Andy and I made the run down to the area Dad and I hammered them. When in 20
minutes, I have one hammer my buzzbait but doesn’t take it. We work our way down the bank. I pick
up a 10 inch plum worm and quickly catch a keeper out of a brushpile off the end of a dock. We
work down the bank and I lose one next to a brushpile. We catch several more shorts and Andy
catches a keeper. We then head to the offshore spot. Well the wind was blowing too hard and we
couldn’t stay on the spot. The spot was really small, maybe 5 foot by 5 foot. So we headed back to
the area where we started. I picked up the buzzbait and catch another keeper. We work down to the
brushpile that I lost the fish on earlier. I set the hook on a good one and get it in the boat. I make
two more pitches to the same brushpile and catch another keeper. We continue to work down the
bank catching a few shorts on the worm and squarebill crankbait. We get to another stretch of
docks and I break one off in a brushpile that felt like a decent fish. We make our way to another
area but have little luck. We make our way back to the bank we started on and started to struggle.
Andy loses a good one at the boat on a squarebill crankbait. We go down the bank and I see a
single pole by itself. I pitch by it and catch my final keeper that barely measures. We catch a few
more short and then time ran out on us.

Keeper count:

Berkley Power Worm (10 inch, Plum): 4 keepers
Buckeye Buzzbait (Black): 1 keeper

Final thoughts: Well after being really sick the whole week before the tournament, I was just glad
to catch some fish. We only had one small area and we worked it over pretty hard. I would have
liked to catch the two fish that I lost but that happens. Hopefully we can make up for it at the next
tournament!!

See ya’ at the next tournament,

Jeremy Risley
