"In the Boat" presented by Jewel Bait Company
Tournament: Monticello Bass Club
                     April 25, 2009
                     Lake Ferguson

Anglers: Jeremy Risley
Place: 4th - 3 bass – 6.11 pounds

Practice: No Practice for this event!!! Andy Case made it to the lake the Sunday before the
tournament and found a couple areas that were holding fish. We also got word that the same areas
were on fire the day before the tournament, as well.

April 25th: If you know me, you know that I am very picky about my boat and scratches. Andy
called and said that I would be better off fishing with him because the only way to catch fish right
now on that lake was to get in the bushes. So I elected to fish with him. We blasted off and headed
to the very north end of the lake against the levee. We started fishing a small area that was void of
bushes but had some submersed vegetation. We fished down it and I see a patch a vegetation
sticking up out of the water that reminded me of water willow on Lake Dardanelle. At the moment, a
light bulb went off and I grabbed my swim jig. I fire it up over the vegetation and start reeling as fast
as I can. I look over to see Shamu heading over to commode flush my jig. I set the hook and get the
fish out of the vegetation and it heads over to a bush. I get it out of the bush and into the boat.
There is nothing like catching a 4 pounder in the first 15 minutes of the morning. We continue to
fish and beat and bang in the bushes for a couple of hours with no luck. Andy said he wanted to get
into this shallow backwater area. So we blasted through a brush line and end up in this shallow
pond like area. We fish in there with no luck and are getting ready to head out when the wind
started blowing into the corner of the backwater. I pick up my swim jig and again start reeling as fast
as I can. About half way back, I put a 13 incher it the boat. Then in the very back I miss another
small keeper. We fish our way out and I tell Andy we need to go down it again. So we make it down
to the very spot where I missed the short keeper. I fire a cast out and catch another 13 incher
keeper. After that, the day fell apart. We never got another bite and ran around everywhere and
threw everything at them.

Keeper count:

1/2 White All-Terrain Swim Jig: 3 keepers

Final thoughts: Well, I guess I was just at the right place at the right time. I am just glad I was able
to capitalize on my few chances that I got during the day. It was a brutal tournament for all anglers.
These fish put me in 1st place in the club, which I am pretty excited about!!!

See ya’ at the next tournament,

Jeremy Risley
