"In the Boat" presented by Jewel Bait Company
Tournament: Walmart BFL
DeGray Lake - March 26th, 2011
Angler: Kevin Holmes - Co-Angler Division

Practice
Pulled into town Thursday night pumped up for some fishing, I started unloading all my bags from
Terrance's truck and noticed I left all my pre-tied leader lines with my 3\0 and 4\0 hooks at the
house. Pulled up to the ramp on Friday morning for my first time ever on Lake DeGray and all I
could think about was what happened to the 80 degree weather that we were having all week long. I
spent most of the day trying out different baits, trying to lock down color and type of bait the fish
were looking for.  It took some time but it looked like the
Big Bite Baits Flying Squirrel in green
pumpkin that I picked up at
Bass Mafia Tackle earlier in the week was going to be the bait of
choice.

Tournament
I get to the ramp met up with my boater Kendall Smith, loaded my rods and gear in the boat talked a
little strategy for the day and then our number is called 66 we are off. The weather is pretty cold
and windy with some misting rain feels like we are winter fishing. First spot we hit is off a main lake
point. I break out the rig and try to get some fish still holding in transition areas. My boater pops a
fish on the first cast but we notice that we have some issues with the motor. We move to the next
spot I break out the
Dobyns 704 CB Glass with my Jackall Secret Shad - Squad Minnow, make
a few casts FISH ON and its a keeper this is going to be a good start to the day. If there is one thing
I learned from this day of fishing, it's how to say the word slot fish. We fished mostly main lake
points and found lots of fish but it was had to find a fish that was over 16 inches. I found that the
fish were keying on the smaller baits, so I threw the
Big Bite Baits 3.5 in Green Pumpkin
Fighting Frog
. It took some time for me to get number 2 in the boat and we had less than 2 hours
left and moved to the Brushy Creek area. I put on a new frog threw on the back side of the point
that had a nice drop, keeper number 2 in the boat. Time is running out we head back to our starting
point to see if any fish had moved back into the spot. I had one last throw before we moved to the
last spot of the day, I drag my rig over some deep water brush and have a fish swallow my 3.5 inch
Fighting Frog. That last fish gives me keeper fish for the day, and I knew  going back to the ramp
this was going to give me a chance at a check. I grab the bag and head to the scales 3 fish for 7-10
not a bad day for a co-angler. I was sitting in 6th at the time but got bumped down to 15th and
collected a check for $146.00. I had a great time on DeGray and can't wait to see what will happen
next time.
