Tournament: Vince Miller's Super Team
August 17th, 2008
Arkansas River - Little Rock Pool
Anglers: Jeremy Risley and Frank Leone
13th Place - 5 bass - 9.76 pounds
Practice: We did not practice for this tournament. We had to wing it and just go fishing. Our goal
was to put 5 keeper fish in the boat.
Tournament: Going into this tournament, the #1 question was whether to stay in Little Rock Pool
or lock up into Pool 7. We called the Lockmaster at Murray Dam at 5:45 AM, and he said that he
had a barge in the lock. We decided to try our luck in Little Rock Pool for a while and put off the
decision making until a little later in the morning. We caught 4 short fish on the first jettie we fished -
Things were looking up! Then it got brutal tough. Like no bites kind of tough. About 8:00 AM,
Jeremy decided that we needed to lock up into 7 - So off we went. It was tough up there too!!!
Finally about 9:30 I caught our first keeper of the day on a jig. Within 5 minutes, Jeremy landed our
second keeper, so it appeared that the fish were starting to fire! But then we hit another lull. A
major lull!! This was one of those days that if you weren't fishing a tournament, you would head
back to the dock early. Then, about 12:30 when all seemed lost, I caught our third keeper off of a
little current break near a straight stretch of rock. Within a minute, Jeremy answered back with a 12-
inch linebreaking Kentucky. We just needed 1 more!!! We continued fishing the bluff rock bank
when Jeremy set the hook on a fish and broke his line. I pitched right to the spot and quickly boat
flipped the fish into the boat. The fish spit Jeremy's jig out right onto my seat!!! I thought it would
measure but it turned out to be an 113/4" Kentucky. At about 1:30 we headed for the lock. I wanted
to stop and fish one more spot, but we were lucky we didn't because when we got there the doors
were opening. Another 5 minutes and we may have gotten locked out! After what seemed like an
eternity The lock doors opened and we had 1 hour to catch our 5th bass. We headed to a bank
that looked good when I fished a Mr. Bass tournament here in May, so we stopped to fish it. Within
5 minutes, I set the hook on a keeper black. Jeremy was fumbling with the net, so I boat flipped it
over his head. It felt good to have 5 in the boat!!! Within 2 minutes, Jeremy answered back, putting
another keeper black in the boat - culling our little 12 inch peanut ! With 5 in the well we headed
back towards Alltel......
Keeper Count: Jewel Eakins' Jig and Jewel Eakins' Flip 'N Jig (5/16th oz and 3/8 oz.; Black/Blue Flash): 4 keepers
Revenge Flip Jig (3/8 oz.; Black/Blue) 2 keepers
Final Thoughts: An extremely tough but rewarding day. We were able to finish 3rd in the Super
Team standings, exceeding our expectations for the season. At the beginning of the year we set a
goal to put 5 keepers in the boat during each tournament, and we were able to do that.....Get5!!!
See ya' on the flip side,
