Tournament: Vince Miller's Super Team
May 2nd, 2010
Greers Ferry Lake
Anglers: Jeremy Risley/Frank Leone
27th place - 5 bass - 6.19 pounds
Practice: We started off early Saturday Morning in an area where we've had a little history. Jeremy
started working a Fluke in the bushes and I flipped a Big Bite Cane Stick. It wasn't long before
Jeremy started catching fish on the Fluke. The problem was that they were shorts. About half-way
through our area, I catch a nice smallmouth on the Cane Stick. About 5 minutes later, Jeremy
connects with a 3-pound largemouth. This got us thinking that our area was holding decent fish.
After completing a circuit around our area, we headed up the lake. We started in a small pocket
and Jeremy starts throwing a Redfin. All of a sudden, there was an eruption all over his bait. Turns
out he hooked two fish!!! He got both in the boat, with one fish being a 3-pounder and one fish
being short. Not five minutes later and Jeremy catches another keeper on the Redfin. We continued
throwing topwater and caught several more keepers throughout the rest of the day. It seemed we
had found a productive pattern............
Tournament: We got to the ramp and had our first dilemma of the day. Do we go down the lake to
an area with better quality or do we go to our topwater fish? Well as we proceeded down the
Narrows in Jeremy's BassCat, it was apparent that we were heading down the lake. We got there
and had it all to ourselves. We started out with the Redfin and didn't get as much as a swirl. We
went back to the Fluke/Cane Stick combo and had very little action. Jeremy thought he had a
keeper swirl on his Fluke, but he didn't connect. After a little over an hour we decided to bail. We
headed up the lake to the pocket that was loaded with fish. We started on the point leading into the
pocket and it wasn't long before I landed our first keeper, a 13-inch Kentucky on the Redfin. Within
10 minutes, Jeremy had boated two more small keeper Kentuckies, so things were looking up. As
we proceeded down the bank, we approached a line of bushes. Jeremy chucks his Redfin up there
and misses one. He casts right to the same spot and a good largemouth commode flushes his
Redfin and jumps off. Then Jeremy said the dreaded words....."This isn't going to be our day".
When he says that, he is usually right! Anyway, we continued fishing and things went from bad to
worse. The sun came out, the pond went flat, and our Redfin bite virtually disappeared. We were
able to catch 3 more keepers during the day, but we didn't have any quality. It felt like we were lost
as a couple of geese.............
Keeper Count: Cordell Redfin - 5 keepers
Jewel Eakins' Jig (3/8 oz.; Brown): 1 keeper
Final Thoughts: Not one of our better performances. We really stunk up the place. From decisions
that didn't pan out to being a little hard-headed, we got our butts handed to us. Time to lick the
wounds..........
See ya' on the flip side,
