"In the Boat" presented by Jewel Bait Company

I fished with Chris Keele for this tournament and I have had no real experience on the water and his
was limited as well. We only knew what people had talked about and that was our main approach.
With the water high and the fish moving up we knew it was going to be a shallow fishing day. The
potential for a big fish is good right now on Lake Atkins as a few 10lb fish have been caught already
this year. The only other trouble is finding fish below the slot! We caught numerous fish from the
17" - 19" range and had a blast. Our main pattern was keying on the cypress trees out off the bank.
In places where the water tracked back into the brush deep into the woods we would take his boat
into this area and camp out. There were fish all over the place. All of our fish were caught flipping
soft plastics, with an occasional fish on spinnerbaits. It was a lot of fun and I will be spending more
time going back looking for the illusive double digit fish. I would have to guess and say that this
seach will not be as difficult in the next year as the Florida bass in this lake are thriving. My next
tournament is BFL on Greers and I am looking forward to the challenge this lake offers. Especially
with the water being so high.
