Mark Hensiek Headed for the BASS Federation Nation
National Championship

Story by Terrance Narveson

Mark Hensiek topped the Arkansas team at the BASS Federation
Regional held on Lewis and Clark Reservoir (South Dakota) this past
June. This accomplishment qualified him for an opportunity to fish at the
BASS Federation Nation National Championship to be held at Milford
Lake, KS. in early November.
Get5 talked to Mark about this tournament
and how he got there.

The first two days of the tournament Mark was riding as a no-boater and
his partners were kind enough to go to his fish, which were way up the
river. This spot ended up being the place where most of the anglers in
the tournament were fishing. The main pattern was along the long rock
bank, flipping laydowns and anything in the water. The hard part about
this place was the treacherous run up the river. It was a long run in
shallow water, which required going back and forth in the channels and
cutting over the sand bars hoping you did not run up on the ground.
Many boats didn't make it, but the fortunate ones that did were
rewarded with many fish.

Mark was using a Quantum Tommy Biffle rod paired with a Quantum
Energy PT reel. "It was like I was fishing for largemouth but I was
catching all smallmouth". His main baits were a RiteBite Tube in Hals
Honey and a Reaction Innovations Smallie Beaver - Watermellon/Green
pumpkin. The National Championship this November will offer a
challenge to Mark as he has never fished Milford Lake and it has been
difficult to find information about the lake. Mark did want to thank Bobby
Davenport (Arkansas Federation Nation President) for helping all the
Arkansas Anglers at this event getting them the baits and information
they needed to succeed. Congratulations from Get5Bass and we look
forward to seeing him again this winter as he defends his Winter Series
Angler of the Year Crown.
