Justin Minnie and Rex Rose Win on Lake Dardanelle

Justin Minnie and Rex Rose Win on Lake Dardanelle!!!!

Story by Terrance Narveson

17 Boats showed up Saturday for the First Tournament of the Heartland Tournament series for
Division 1. It was a beautiful day to be on the water with a light breeze to offset the early
season warming trend. The fishing seemed to pretty good as close to half the field brought in a
limit. Lake Dardanelle has been putting out some good weights all year and looks like it is still
going to be doing it again this year.  First place was Justin Minnie/Rex Rose they came in with
a 20.32lbs sack. The weights were close as 7th place was 15lbs. It was a good tournament and
their next one is on Greers Ferry March 22nd putting in on the west ramp. Here is how the top
three places caught their fish.

1st Place – 20.32lbs

Justin Minnie/Rex Rose

They concentrated on wind blown points on the lower end of the lake that had a good drop by
it and baitfish.  Justin and rex were throwing Lucky Craft Pointer 100’s to get their fish. They
only landed 5 keepers so luckily they were the right bites. All their fish were caught before
10am and then the bite shut off for the rest of the day.

                                               Johnny Rudder and Jason Pitts

2nd Place – 19.66lbs - Johnny Rudder/Jason Pitts

It was a mixed day for them as they caught fish on almost everything they threw and culling by
9:30am. They focused on drops in about 12 ft of water on the lower end of the lake. The three
main baits were jigs, spinner baits, and Crankbaits. With 18 keepers caught for the day they
had a great day of fishing. It was the one that got away that may have cost them the first place
spot but with the kind of day they had it is hard to complain about losing one.

3rd Place – 17.77lbs

Tray Huddleston/Spencer Grace

As they put it “Rather than stay up and fish for 15inchers they decided to lock down.” It was a
bold move especially in the winter and with flow on the river but they managed to pull out a
good limit fishing “River Channel Buoys” with drop shots and jigging spoons. They found
groups of fish down about 12ft hanging around the channel markers and proceeded to catch
them.  They did not catch many but it was enough for a third place finish. As hard as it is to
believe their story I guess I will have to get in the boat and have them show me how it is done.
Congratulations to Tray and Spencer for thinking outside the box
