Ric Cothren and Gary Jeffery Win Greers Ferry Lake Bassmasters Tournament on Lake Dardanelle
Story by Terrance Narveson
The Greers Ferry Bassmasters came to Lake Dardanelle this Saturday and the fishing turned out to be a summer time struggle. Lots of fish came across the scales but it was the team of Ric Clothern/Gary Jeffery that took home the top spot. The Summer time weather is here and seems to be here for good. The fish have not moved from the shallows, but the better bites seem to be coming offshore. Lots of anglers are reporting that the shallow bite is good but the hook up is poor. After talking to a few of the top anglers today it seems the fish are there but the size is not what it takes for the win. Here is how our top three caught their fish.
1st Place - 17.10lbs - Ric Cothren/Gary Jeffery They stayed in the Deleware Bay area and fished off shore with Carolina Rigs and Jigs. It was a good day for them as they caught about 9 keepers. They tried shallow but could not improve thier sack.
2nd Place - 15.63lbs - Bill Brown/Joe Newman
They stayed on the lower end throwing Brown Eakins Jigs shallow. They didnt have very many bites but it was enough to get them second place.
3rd Place - 15.62lbs - Gary Hensley/Kayla Macomber
Once again they are on top of the board on Dardanelle. They fishede up the river and caught their fish on crankbaits then came back down to fish the grass with a jig and cull a few before coming in. It was slow day for them but just enough bites the get them third.
