Dwight Armstrong wins the Dumas Bass Club Tournament on
Cane Creek Lake
Dwight Armstrong Wins on Cane Creek Lake!!!
Story by Andy Case
With several inches of snow being dropped in Dallas TX and heading for
Arkansas, there was some concern if the Dumas Bass Club was going to be
able to have their second event or if it would be postponed. Thursday the
weather hit and it was NASTY, however my man Ned Perme hit Friday’s
forecast on the head. He said the front would move out and warm up some,
and well at least part of it did….the front did move out. With no chance of
any bad weather and dry road conditions, the D.B.C.’s second tournament
was on and bound for Cane Creek Lake. This is a beautiful lake and park
facility, oh yea if you plan to go, keep in mind there a FEW stumps. This
pond may not be good for the “Run & Gun” angler. At blast off the water
temperature was a frigid 38 degrees, however as the day went on and the
sun was out it did climb to an amazing high of 39 degrees. This “cool” water
temperature did not stop 22 boaters from showing up, and a few even broke
that ice seal on their live-well lids. One of those was 1st place winner
Dwight Armstrong!
Dwight ended up with 3 bass weighing in at 10.95, he told me he “down-
sized” his jigs to catch all his fish. Personally I think the bass were drawn to
his boat while he was running that big “blast-o-matic” heater in the back.
2nd Place
Mr. Gary “Spunky” Smith took second with 2 bass weighing in at 10.24, his
bait of choice was top secret.
3rd place
With 2 bass weighing in at 8.32, Mr. Ricky Don Cantrell wrapped up the
third place spot.
Big Bass
And the lunker for the day goes to Mr. George Watson for landing a 5.70
POT BELLIED PIG. This little piggy got Mr. Watson a nice little pay
check….Wonder if he remembered Sunday was Valentine’s?
