Ron Shuffield and Johnny Rowton Win the DeGray Summer Series Tournament on DeGray Lake
Ron Shuffield and Johnny Rowton Win on DeGray Lake!!!
Story by Cody Kemp
It looked as if the boat numbers were going to be down do to the chance of storms for the area, but at the last minute most everyone began piling in line at the pavilion and we ended up with 27 boats.
Our first place team was WHITE HOT Johnny Rowton and Ronnie Shuffield. They had the most impressive bag I have seen caught in a tournament on lake Degray in a few years, they weighed-in almost 25lbs!!! The scales finally stopped climbing at 24.97lbs. Their kicker fish weighed an impressive 8.45lbs. I made Ronnie spill the beans on his night after the weigh-in and he commented that all his fish were caught on jigs and worms, and with the cloudy weather we have had, the fish moved out of piles and into shallower water no deeper than 15 feet. They commented that the fish were bunched up in a school on nothing - no rocks, no brush, nothing, just a flat and it was necessary to have shad in the area. He commented that all his fish except one were caught in about 15 minutes. Then the final nail in the coffin came on Ronnie’s last cast of the night and it was a five pounder. For their “DINASOAR” filled bag they earned a total of $480.00 on the night.
Our second place team was Ben Jackson and Barry Sutton they had 15.81lbs which earned them $175.00 on the night.
Our third place team was Rusty Manning and Johnny Manning they had a solid limit weighing 15.45lbs which earned the $110.00.
