Allen and Aaron Fullbright Win the DeGray Summer Series Tournament on DeGray Lake
Story by Cody Kemp
Only 13 boats came out to brave the fourth of July crowds on Friday night. We expected the bite to slow a bit from the big bags caught during the weekly night tournaments do to the added lake pressure, but the fish were not affected at all by the added traffic.
First place finishers Allen Fullbright and Aaron Fullbright topped everyone with a gargantuan bag weighing 21.63lbs, there bag also consisted of the nights big bass which was a 5.08lb toad. These combined won them a very nice check for only 13 boats which was $260.00 for first and another $60.00 for the Big Bass. They commented little about there tactics but the fishing was definitely done on the lower end of the lake
Second Place finishers were Ben Jackson and Barry Sutton, they had a nice bag of chunks that weighed 17.74lbs. This won them $140.00 on the night
Third Place was My dad Danny Kemp and myself. We had a great night on the water culling seven times but each time was by mere ounces so we ended up with a solid bag at 16.73lbs. My dad told me he wanted to go out and fish with me when I started catchin em on a big worm (its all he likes doing). I went out last Sunday night and smashed a giant limit over the 20 lb mark on a Net bait 11 inch Red Bug worm. I also caught 18.8 pounds to win our Tuesday night tournament this week with my partner being my “never netted before in her life” girlfriend (stressful). So I came home and told him he needed to go fish with me Friday night in our tournament because we would wack em. He agreed! All my fish came from the 10 to 5 foot zone. I had to sit on only a few spots all night to catch them up there because these fish are moving from super deep water to the shallows to feed at night and I am just catching them cruising around.
