Johnny and Rusty Manning Win the DeGray Summer
Series on DeGray Lake

Story by Cody Kemp

27 boats were out to battle the Memorial Day boats, waves, and bass;
and with the bite being so tough lately with all the fishing pressure from
the weekend there wasn’t much talk of it taking a big bag to cash a
check. This turned out to be true as only a few limits crossed the scales.

First place went to Rusty Manning and Johnny Manning the duo had
12.90lbs worth a total of $360.00 for the night.

Second place was Brent Wheatley and Justin Pulley they had a nice limit
of bass that weighed 11.43lbs which earned them $180.00 for the night.
They commented they lost a couple good fish that would have pushed
them over the top for the win. There fish were caught around the water
willow on big worms and spinnerbaits.

Third place was Johnny Rowton and Ron Shuffield. The team had 4 fish
that weighed 10.97lbs. They earned $110.00 for their solid finish

Fourth place team was Steven Smith and Rick Smith. These guys had
the winning stringer but had a fish turn belly up just before presenting
it to weigh in officials, so the fish would not get weighed and an
additional pound would be removed from their total weight. The four
living fish presented to weigh in officials weighed a solid 11.45 pounds
but when the pound penalty was added it dropped them from a sure
second to fourth place. They earned $50.00 for their fourth place finish.

Big bass was a chunk 4.38 pounder that beat my chunk by a mere .03lbs
(tear) this nice fish was caught by the team of Robbie Helms and
Micheal Welch. It was worth $130.00

Guys again it is post spawn, and summertime so fish are extremely
susceptible to stress related death so please do all you can to prevent
this. Ice your live wells with at least two 18lb bags of ice, put them on re-
circulate and add a cap full of your favourite bait keeper, doing this will
certainly improve your chances of your fish surviving.
