Daniel Smith Wins the Civitan Services "Hook a Heart" Benefit
Tournament on the Arkansas River
Daniel Smith Takes Home the Big Check at Little Rock!!!
Daniel Smith topped 27 teams competing in the 1st annual Civitan Services
"Hook a Heart" Benefit Tournament on the Little Rock Pool of the
Arkansas River by catching 5 bass that weighed 16.43 pounds. The river is
finally losing some "steam", as flows are now around 70,000 cubic feet per
second. Several quality bags crossed the scales and it took over 12 pounds
to crack into the top 10. Here's how the top 3 teams caught their fish:
1st - Daniel Smith - 5 bass - 16.43 pounds - $1,250.00
Daniel's usual fishing partner is his
brother (Brian), who was unable to fish
this event. It didn't hinder Daniel, as he
was able to top the 27 boat field fishing
alone. Daniel locked down to Pool 5,
where he started the day throwing Ribbit
buzz frogs in backwater areas. The frog
produced 2 keepers early, and he
had to rely on a jig fished near the main
river to catch the remainder of his bag.

2nd - Fred Martin - 5 bass - 15.74 pounds - $900.00
Fred stayed in Pool 6, where he threw
a Senko and a buzzbait to catch his fish.
He commented that the buzzbait produced
the better quality bites, and that he lost
two bass in the 5 - 6 pound range.

3rd - James Stafford/Robert Heaton - 5 bass - 14.82 pounds - $600.00
James and Robert almost didn't
make it to the weigh-in with their big
sack. Seems their boat's engine
blew a cylinder somewhere near
Willow Beach. James commented
that all of their fish were caught on a
jig fished near the main river
channel in Pool 5.
