Duke Gunnell and Wayne Dixon Win the 1st Annual CASA Benefit Tournament on Lake Dardanelle
Wayne Dixon and Duke Gunnell Win on Lake Dardanelle!!!
Duke Gunnell and Wayne Dixon topped 38 teams fishing the 1st annual CASA benefit Tournament on Lake Dardanelle by catching 5 bass that tipped the scales at 17.89 pounds. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) is an organization that helps children in need. This benefit was organized by Robert Whitehead, who did a great job soliciting sponsors to provide water, ice, and a meal for the anglers (provided by Mickie's Bluefish Grill). Also stepping up big time was Wilkins Bros. Outdoors, who were instrumental in getting donations for the Big Bass prize of $1,500.00 !!! Of course the real winners of this tournament were the children who will benefit from the more than $1,800.00 raised for CASA !!! Get5Bass and CASA would like to thank all the anglers who fished this event. It will be bigger and better next year, so keep and eye open for the announcement of next year's date!!! Here's how the top 3 teams caught their fish:
1st place - Duke Gunnell and Wayne Dixon - 5 bass - 17.78 pounds - $713.00
Duke and Wayne fished shallow to catch their bass. They commentated that the bite was slow, but they were able to catch 7 or 8 keepers on the day. Out of the 5 fish they weighed, four were caught on a River2Sea Bully Wa Frog and one bit a black/blue jig. Duke commented that he believes the River2Sea Bully Wa is the best frog on the market, and who could argue? He won $100,000 on the Bully Wa at the Arkansas Big Bass Bonanza earlier this month !!!
Bryan and David caught their fish in the 8 ft. range around rip-rap rock. All of their fish were caught on Black/Blue Jigs.
3rd place - Richard Wood/Kenneth Yates - 5 bass - 14.60 pounds - $285
Richard and Kenneth fished Bomber Fat Free Shad Crankbaits (Size #7; Gizzard Shad) around drops on the lower end of Lake Dardanelle.
Big Bass - Zach King and Joey Fisher - 4.54 pounds - $1,500.00
Joey Fisher and Zach King win $1,500.00 for Big Bass of the day !!!
Zach and Joey's original strategy for the tournament was to lock downriver to Pool 9. However, a barge in the lock changed their plans. Starting in Dardanelle, Zach landed the day's big bass, a 4.54 "Baby Cub" on a Secret Lures Jig (3/8 oz. Black/Blue). Joey commented that he netted the fish shortly after it bit Zach's bait, and it came "unbuttoned" in the net. Thanks to Joey's quick reflexes (and Zach's fishing skills), the duo took home the highly coveted $1,500 check for big bass !!!
