Jeff Cooper Wins on Lake Dardanelle!!!

Story by Terrance Narveson

The final Bassmaster Weekend Series Tournament of 2007 was held on Lake
Dardanelle this weekend. 23 boaters and 18 co-anglers came out for the two day
event and some exciting early fall fishing. At least a few of the fishermen can say
that, as most people struggled to find a pattern that would hold or put out keeper
fish. The high pressure front that moved in made for pleasant fishing but the bite
never really got going. Here is how the top finishers caught their fish.

1st Place
Jeff Cooper - 30.76lbs
He stayed with a crankbait pattern for both days. Jeff was throwing a bandit 200
series and fat free fingerling in shad patterns around rocks and grass. He camped
out in a bay in the lower end of the lake and just kept covering water. He caught a lot
of fish, but only had a few keepers and was able to cull both days.

                                                     2nd place: Mike Jolly

2nd Place - Mike Jolly - 29.02lbs
Mike was catching most of his fish on a crankbait tied to a Powell Rod 686. The
Powell Rod was key for him as he didn't lose a fish on the crakbait and the ease of
the hookset didn't pull the bait from the fish. A couple of Jewel Eakins jigs
(Greenpumpkin & Missouri Craw) produced fish for him as well. His big fish came off
a Black Neon Mizmo tube. The pattern on the second day changed for Mike and he
stuck with a proven bait that has worked for me all year -  the FlatBottom jig from
Burrhead Lures. He was able to catch multiple fish on the FlatBottom and caught his
bigger fish on the crankbait fishing around flats on the lower end of the lake.

                                                   3rd place - Darrell West

3rd Place - Darrell West - 20.88lbs
He was fishing two areas for both days and would basically run the same pattern
between the two places. He would start with a buzzbait in the morning and a
spinnerbait later in the day fishing grass beds on the lower lake.

                                        1st place Co-angler: Michael Blackwell

1st Place Co-Angler - Michael Blackwell - 17.87lbs
Michael had a great first day with two big fish and a keeper for 11.91lbs. His first fish
came off a Stanley Ribbit frog and he said thanked his Falcon rod and Spiderwire
line for helping him get the big fish to the boat quickly and out of the slop. His other
big fish came off a rattle trap late in the day. The second day was tough and caught
his three fish limit on a shakey head worm.
