Scott Teer takes the win for the Bassmaster Weekend Series on Dardanelle!!! Extremely windy conditions along with muddy water from the recent storms didn't make things easy for the fishermen on Saturday as only 5 limits were brought in for the day. The lake has been putting out monster limits this year and with the spawn about to happen anglers knew this could be another one for the books. Scott's 19.08 held for the top spot and gave him a win for the day. Here is how he approached the difficult conditions:
1st Place - 19.08lbs - Scott Teer
He fished in the wind starting with jigs and put a couple in the boat early but the bite dwindled and he had to adjust. He didn't change locations as much as presentation, and he started throwing crankbaits around the rocks. He was throwing a Bomber and Manns baby 1 minus to get his bites. The bites were few but good.
2nd Place - 17.01lbs - Jason Milsap
Jason fished in Dardanelle bay all day focusing on the rocks like Teer but throwing a wiggle wart. His pattern was simple but the bites were tough to come by.
3rd Place 16.28lbs - Paul Baker
Paul started up the river a little ways with a black and blue jig and green pumpkin trailer. He caught three fish early but the bite shut off. Later in the day he switched to a spinnerbait and was able to get his last couple of keepers.
Dylan fished with Scott Teer and they were really on some big fish. Dylan said he was not optimistic about fishing in the wind in the morning but after about the third cast Scott caught a 5lb fish and he figured this pattern just might work. It was late in the day with time running out when he caught his big bass which culled out a 4lb keeper he had. 15lbs with three fish is a great day no matter what the conditions especially from the back of the boat. Congratulations Dylan on a great day.
The weekend series has been running short on co-anglers and boaters this year. With $5000 guaranteed for the first place boater one would think more people would be fishing for this top prize. Payback for the other anglers has been good as well with approx 20% of the field getting checks. They have a few more Tournaments left for the year and there is still time to make the championship as well as get your chance at the $5000 purse. We will be posting the next tournament on the front page so make time to get in on the action.
