Brandon Lee Wins Bassmaster Weekend Series Tournament on
Lake Dardanelle

Brandon Lee Takes the Title with 21.93 pounds!

Story by Terrance Narveson

Brandon Lee topped the field with 21.93lbs on the second stop for the
Bassmaster Weekend Series (Arkansas Division). He also caught the
days big bass (6.99) which helped him to complete his win. The morning
was chilly with a slight breeze and as the fishermen waited for the takeoff
most could only think of the big fish Lake Dardanelle has been producing
this spring. Would this be the day for the year’s biggest sack? Lake
Dardanelle has been giving up huge sacks this spring with 22- 24lbs being
the average to win. The recent cold front may have put a damper on the
big females, but not the smaller fish as everyone said they caught a lot of
fish.  Brandon capitalized on two areas and one pattern for his win. Here
is how the top anglers caught their fish:

Brandon Lee was all smiles after capturing his first major victory

1st - Brandon Lee – 21.93lbs

The lower lake has been giving up the big sacks this year and that is
where he stayed. Brandon keyed on two rip rap banks throwing jerkbaits
parallel to the shore. He said that he did not catch a lot of keepers, but
the ones he did catch were good fish. When he caught his 6.99 kicker, he
knew it was a good fish but didn’t realize how big until it came up and he
got a look at it. You could see the excitement in his eyes as he put the fish
on the scale and it was enough to take the lead. Way to go Brandon, and
with him being one of the youngest anglers we should expect to see him on
the podium more in the future.

                                        Darrell West

2nd -  Darrell West – 20.63lbs

Darrell also fished the lower lake and keyed on wind blown banks to catch
his fish. He was throwing a red rattletrap and catching fish by the bundle.
Get5 (Terrance) was lucky enough to fish with him for the day and
commented that it was probably one of the best days on the water he had
ever had. Darrell caught approximately 20 keepers and another 20 non
keepers.

3rd - Jerry Williams – 19.64lbs

Jerry declined an interview with Get5, but we heard he was catching his
fish on the upper end of the lake.

Creighton Sawyer wins the Co-angler Crown!

1st  - Co-angler Division - Creighton Sawyer – 12.83lbs

For a three fish limit this was a tremendous day's catch. Get5 was unable
to interview Creighton after the tournament.

In the boat with Get5Bass:

Terrance Narveson:

I fished with Darrell West and he put on a clinic with a rattle trap. I think
we both went home with soar thumbs from lipping so many fish. I caught 8
keepers for the day but it was nothing compared to his 20. We did lose a
couple of fish that may have helped, but I guess you can’t catch them all.
My best guess would probably be that we caught over 50 fish for the day.
The key was the wind and he stayed in it all day. All our fish were caught
in probably 3-4 ft. of water Darrell said he planned on bringing his son and
wife back here this next week to get in on the action. I hope they have as
much fun as I did. I finished 7th on the co-angler side, good enough for a
decent check.

See you next time,

Terrance
