Danny and Sharon Waldo Win the Arkansas Couples Championship on Lake Dardanelle
Sharon and Danny Waldo win with a two-day total of 23.68 pounds
Danny and Sharon Waldo topped 25 teams fishing Vince Miller's Arkansas Couples Championship on Lake Dardanelle this weekend by bringing 9 bass to the scales weighing 23.68 pounds. Fishing was tough this weekend on Dardanelle (only 4 limits were brought to the scales), but Danny and Sharon were able to follow up yesterday's leading bag (4 bass - 10.57 pounds) with a solid 5 bass limit weighing 13.11 pounds. For their efforts, Danny and Sharon took home $2,058.00. Here's how the top 4 teams caught their fish:
1st - Danny and Sharon Waldo - 9 bass - 23.68 pounds
Danny and Sharon concentrated their efforts around the Cabin Creek area on Dardanelle. They threw watermelon buzzfrogs and 9-inch Zoom Lizards around pads to catch their fish. "We were greatful for every fish we caught" said Danny Waldo. "We found some pads near deep water and stayed there and stayed there" Waldo continued. Although they caught more fish on Saturday, only four were keepers. "I was surprised we caught fewer fish today, but we had better quality bites- we were able to cull once today" Waldo concluded.
2nd - Rob Louthian and Tammie Muse - 8 bass - 20.96 pounds
Tammie and Rob fished in the Spadra area to finish second and take home $1,381.00. On day 1, they weeded through 50 fish to weigh three keepers, which were caught on Horny Toads and white flappin' shads. On Day 2, they had to alter their pattern due to heavy boat traffic. "We started throwing Eakins jigs (PB&J color) around drops and had a limit within 20 minutes - We were able to cull several times" said Tammie. Rob Louthian and Tammie Muse
3rd - Bryan and Karen Head - 7 bass - 16.80 pounds
Bryan and Karen concentrated their efforts on bluff banks on the lower end of Dardanelle. They threw Eakins jigs (green pumkin/ blue) tipped with Paca chunk trailers to land their fish. "Karen broke a monster off this morning, but accept for that we caught every fish that bit - it was extremly tough "said Bryan. Karen and Bryan took home $877.50 for their efforts. Big Bass of the Tournament - Will and Roberta Cranston - 5.07 pounds
"Will caught the big one on the first cast of the day - but I was real quick with the net" said Roberta Cranston as she collected the check for big bass. Come to think of it, Roberta was pretty quick to collect the check as well. The fish was caught on a Pop-R.
