Jamey Black Wins the ABA Tournament on Lake Ouachita
Story provided by John Simonof
Division 47, Arkansas held its fourth qualifying tournament of the 2012 season on Lake Ouachita 7 Jan 2012. It was a balmy winter day in Arkansas as the temps were in the 50’s for the day with overcast skies. Water temps are normally in the mid 40’s this time of year but it has been a mild winter so far and water temps were in the low 50’s. The warmer than normal water temps have kept the fish scattered contributing to the lower than normal winter weights for Lake Ouachita as winning weights were expected to top the 20 lb mark. 28 anglers weighed in 82 fish for a total weight of 174.44 lbs.
Jamey Black of Sheridan, Arkansas took home $725.00 with 5 bass that weighed 14.69 lbs including Big Bass of the day at 5.59 lbs. Jamey caught his fish on Wiggle Wart crankbaits and Megabass jerkbaits. Derek Sandlin of Mount Ida, Arkansas finished a close second with a total weight of 14.54 lbs. Spencer Shuffield of Bismark, Arkansas rounded out the top three with 12.82 lbs. The infamous Alabama type rig didn’t factor into the win of this tournament but they were used in many of the higher place finishes.
These anglers acquired valuable points to insure their entry into the division’ s two-day championship on Lake Ouachita in Apr 2012 and the American Fishing Tour National Championship that will be held on Grand Lake, OK in the October 2012. Their points are also being used to determine the divisional angler of the year. The top angler by points earned in this division will represent the division in the Angler of the Year final round and compete for a brand new fully rigged Triton boat and a spot in the Bassmaster Weekend Series National Championship on Sam Rayburn in 2012.
Next Divisional Tournament: This division’s next tournament will be 21 January 2012 on Lake Ouachita launching out of Mountain Harbor Resort.
