Brent Brainard and Brent Stallings Win the Super Team
Tournament on DeGray Lake

Brent Stallings and Brent Brainard Win on DeGray Lake!!!

Brent Stallings and Brent Brainard topped 44 teams fishing Vince Miller's
Super Team Tournament on DeGray Lake by catching 5 bass that weighed
18.03 pounds. With the recent warming trend the bass in DeGray started to
eat, as there were thirteen 5-bass limits and 5 sacks over the 17-pound
mark. Here's how the top 3 teams caught their bass:

1st - Brent Stallings and Brent Brainard - 5 bass - 18.03 pounds - $2,500.00

Brent and Brent concentrated their efforts in coves with stumps and timber
located in the middle section of the lake. They threw Bandit crankbaits
(spring craw) and Strike King Redeye Shad (Red; 3/4 oz.) lipless crankbaits
to catch their bass.

2nd - Steve and Malinda Powell - 5 bass - 17.85 pounds - $1,000.00

Steve and Malinda also fished the
middle section of the lake. They
threw rattletraps and spinnerbaits
to catch their bass. They commented
that they caught 18 or 19 keepers on
the day. Steve and Malinda's sack
also included the day's big bass, a
5.78 pound "lunker" which earned
them an additional $860.00

                                                                    Steve and Malinda Powell

3rd - Frank Leone and Jeremy Risley - 5 bass - 17.48 pounds - $800.00

Jeremy and I also fished the middle
section of DeGray. We threw Jewel
Eakins' Jigs, Strike King Red Eye
Shad (Chrome Sexy; 1/2 oz.) and
Yozuri Rattlin' Vibe lipless
crankbaits to catch our bass. We
caught 25 keepers and had a great
day on the water. To read our "In
the Boat" Column,

1st Arkansas Couples Tournament of 2010 Set for March 14th
on Lake Hamilton

I am looking forward to this year's tournaments.  I hope all of you are also.
We have our returning couples, new couples joining and couples we haven’t
seen in a while.

Your Anglers of the Year – are Will and Roberta Cranston.  This is their 4th
year in a row as AOY.  If you see Cliff and Kathy Crowder congratulate
them on their championship win on Table Rock.  We had a blast!

Our first tournament finds us on Lake Hamilton in Hot Springs March 14,
2010.  You can sign up at Fish n’ Stuff in Sherwood.  Registration will be at
the Arkansas Game and Fish Hatchery building from 4 – 5 PM.

Bring your chairs, drinks and a potluck dish.  Michael Johnson is cooking
beef brisket and his famous Cole Slaw.  Supper will start at 5PM.

This year should be GREAT for all of us.  See you at the waters.

Winter is Jackall Squirrel Season!!!

The Jackall Squirrel 79DD in Tennessee Shad (top) and
          Ghost Sexy Shad (bottom)

Story by Terrance Narveson

Jackall has a variety of proven baits that consistently catch fish but as the
tough bite in winter sets in the Squirrel 79DD is a lure that should come out
of hibernation. This small bait is built tough and designed to get down to
depths around 8ft deep. This puts a bait that is easy to work (Squirrel
79DD) down deeper where the winter fish are hanging out.

Terrance with a Dardanelle bass caught on the Squirrel

The Squirrel 79
DD not only can cast like a bullet but the ease at which it is
retrieved makes it easy to throw all day. There is very little fatigue on your
arms because the bait does not give you a lot of resistance when you are
working it's magic. It can be worked with short soft twitches or harder more
abrupt twitching. The action of the bait stays true and it dives quickly
putting the bait in the strike zone longer during each cast.

                                                     EAT IT!!!

I tried many different retrieves while using this bait but by far the best one
for me was a simple subtle twitch, twitch, pause retrieve. Most of the fish I
caught were either on the first twitch after a pause. Depending on how
aggressive the bite, the fish either had the bait swallowed, wedged in its
mouth or stuffed head first. The standard Jackall hooks are razor sharp and
when a fish looks at this bait wrong it is hooked up. Another great feature
about this bait is that as soon as you take it out of the package it is ready to
fish. No adjustments are needed to make it work better and that is a huge
deal in case you do end up losing one the next one you tie on will give you
the same results.

                                     For Smallmouth Too!!!

No species of bass is safe when the Squirrel comes out to play. I have
caught football sized spotted bass, big bronzebacks, and livewell filling
blacks. With and array of colors you are sure to find your new favorite
friend with a Jackall Squirrel 79DD.
